The temperatures had dropped, the clouds were at time blocking the rays of the sun, there was very little wind, was a good day to race. There were 11 different colleges attending the race on the Hillsboro Country Club course, don't the hill part of the town adjust your thinking about the terrain of the 5k distance. This is a nice course to race on. The top five Blue Angels put together an average race time of 22 minutes and 17 seconds and 1-5 pack time of 1 minute and 45 seconds. As a team the Angels placed 6th, just missing the next spot by a few points. The few points is always an object of discussion, unlike most team sports, all seven racers have a job. The job is simple, finsih in front of as many of the opposing teams racers. The movement of 1 spot, can be a 2 point swing. This just does not only apply to your 5 team counters, as your "pushers" (6th and 7th) can affect the outcome by moving in front to the other teams 1-5. Simple math, but not "new math". Within the race, there is always small races going on, there is movement going up the hills and movement going down the hills, there is movement on the turns, movement on the straights. As a racer you have to maintain your "race" brain, you have to stay mentally locked in to what is going on around you.
First mile splits Rylee Brammeier 6:25, Gracie Morgan 6:39, Alli Lammers 6:44, Kyndall Sturgeon 6:52, Lucy Walters 7:01, Ryann Becker 7:04, Ivy Donoho 7:08, Cora Hill 7:59.
Comments. Lucy ran a heck of first mile for her! Gracie's second mile was faster than her first! Rylee's first mile was tough. Kyndall is improving each race. Alli's first mile was right where it needs to be. Still time to get better.
Other comments. Gracie struggled early but hung tough. Rylee needs better last 1.1. If you not under 7 minutes after the first mile you are behind the apple cart.
