Results of Walt Crawford Open

Mother Nature has been messing with the Blue Angels all week, with the super hot tempertures and unbearable humdity. So why would the first race of the new season be any different. With lightning bolts with in the comfort zone, most of the day before the race was on the KC bus. Glad the AC was in good working order. When we finally got the word on the start time, there was less than 20 minutes to warm back up. But of coarse, when its almost 90 degrees, a lot "warm" up is not needed. There was one more special little difference, the decision was made (and a good idea) to race the men and the women at the same time over the 5K distance. The with the men and women from five different colleges lined up, the gun was fired and the racers were off. The Blue Angels packed together in a strategic positon at the beginnig of the race. Centralia's Raelyn Dearing and Patoka's Kyndall Sturgeon were the first Angels to the one mile marker, followed by Mater Dei's Ryann Becker.  Next to the one mile mark running side by side were Salem's Ivy Donoho and Red Bud's Simone Liefer, Twin one and Twin Two. Centralia's and Nashville's Reagan Cross and Aubrey Fernandez were working as a team in the next spots for the Angels. When the dust and dry grass settled at the finish line the order of finish for KC women were Dearing, Sturgeon, Donoho, Becker, Liefer, Cross and Ferendez. The overall results were improved from last year, which is a good start for the 2024 season.
