Despite a 3 hour bus trip, near record high tempertures and humidity for early October, plus a wet and muddy course, the Devils put together their best team effort of the season. Ty Reynolds and Alex Detmer led the charge to the first mile and continued to battle the hills of the Yellow Creek 8K cross country course. The 30 minute 19 second average time was the best of the season for the KC men, as was the 2 minute 30 second pack time. Reynolds crossed the finish line in 13th place (earning one of the top 15 medals) with a season best time of 28 minutes and 49 seconds, as the after affects of all the summer Mt. Dews are clearing from his system. Detmer was 22nd overall in 29 minutes and 31 seconds. Running the best race of his college career, almost clean shaven Andrew Stevenson cross the finish line in 30 minutes and 50 seconds, earning the Big Devils pitch fork for the biggest move of the season. Sam Britt continues to get in racing shape and finished in 31 minutes and 08 seconds, teamate and fellow freshman Caleb Klein, left everything on the course and crossed in 31 minutes and 19 seconds. Ryan Gerdes of Mater Dei High School in Breese, IL (home of Wally's) was next for KC in a strong race for the freshman in 32 minutes and 13 seconds. Alex Huegen finished strong, as he was the 7th KC racer to finish. "It was hot, it was humid, some of the down hills were treacherous with mud, but the Devils attacked the course, the pack was 13 seconds apart at the 1st mile, and around 50 seconds at mile 2. We are starting to come together as a team. Ty had fantasic race and not sure what to say about Andrew, all his work has started to payoff, sometimes you just have to trust your training and believe in yourself. Starting to see that."
